WORKSHOP OUTLINE

Sure, you know how to write code. But do you know how to do it effectively using all the tools in the Visual Studio 2010 family including Team Foundation Server 2010? In this workshop, we’ll go through the process of building a .NET 4.0 n-tier application with multiple layers using Visual Studio 2010 and Team Foundation Server 2008.

First, learn how to set up your team project, define work items, and configure version control. Then learn how to use the architecture features in the Ultimate edition of Visual Studio and Expression Blend Sketchflow to design your overall system architecture and the user interface.

Next, using features in the core Visual Studio product and in the Premium edition, we’ll learn how unit testing and code coverage can help you write better code. Then see how the database features bring sanity to building SQL Server databases including version control, unit testing, and more. We’ll then dig into features that make core development better including code analysis, code metrics, and profiling to make your application even better.

Next, see how Team Build provides the cornerstone for solid team integration with support for builds on demand and continuous integration. Moving on, see how the new IntelliTrace and test features help developers and testers work better and faster to kill bugs. Wrapping up, we’ll see how the project management and reporting features help you keep your project on track. By the end of the day, you’ll have built an application and managed the process using Visual Studio 2010 and Team Foundation Server 2010.
